You’re thinking of taking the PTE Academic, but you’re not exactly sure when you should start practicing ? This may not be the answer you want to hear, but the truth is: it depends! Let’s check out why.
Find out what type of student you are
For most of our academic lives, we’re taught to learn things at the same pace as our peers, but that’s not exactly the most efficient way for each individual to learn, especially when it comes to PTE. Think about whether you are good or not with exams and how fast you study for them.
Don’t get too ahead of yourself
We usually recommend students to start studying 3 months before their exam. Again, the optimal time varies from student to student, but if you start studying too early, you might forget a lot of the strategies before you actually take the test. Plan ahead, but also don’t rush too much.
What’s your level of English?
At PTE Smart, we always talk about how the PTE is more about learning the strategies you need in order to pass the exam, rather than having a high level of English. However, it does make it easier for you to pass if your English is very good. Give yourself enough time to prepare for PTE.
How much time do you have every day?
Ideally, you should have time to study every day in the couple of months preceding your test. Nevertheless, life doesn’t always allow for that. So if you know you won’t have a lot of time during your routine to prepare, think about starting earlier. That way, you will guarantee you have enough time.
Organize your routine to prepare for PTE
Most of us aren’t used to studying for exams anymore. We also have many other obligations that we need to tend to in our day-to-day lives. That’s why organizing your routine in order to have enough time and disposition to prepare for PTE is of the utmost importance.
Things aren’t always perfect
It’s really good to plan ahead and have a lot of time to prepare. But if you see yourself in a situation when you have less than the appropriate amount of time to prepare, don’t give up! Many of our students have had a very short time to get ready for the PTE and passed. Don’t give up!
Talk to your PTE coach
In this blog, we’ve talked many times about the importance of having help from an expert during your PTE preparation. If you aren’t exactly sure how much time you will need to prepare for PTE, explain your situation to someone who might help. Don’t do this by yourself.
Start studying
The truth is: if you need to take the PTE, you’ll need to start studying at some point. A lot of people get caught up in details and problems that don’t really matter when we prepare for PTE. Just start studying and you will see that it’s actually simpler than you made it out to be in your head!
