PTE Snapshots: A Five-Minute Reading that Could Change Your Life
PTE Academic stands for Pearson Test of English. It is a computer-based exam that was outlined for non-native English speakers who dream of studying or working in an English native speaking country. The test offers a dynamic and fair way of demonstrating your proficiency in the English language, when contemplating immigration, applying for student visas and university admissions.
How does it work?
PTE is a 2-hour test and it can be taken either online or in person. The exam focuses on evaluating 4 English competencies: Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing. Generally, PTE evaluates two or more skills at a time – for example, listening and writing. In PTE, the questions are mostly about daily life scenarios and naturally spoken conversations.
Where can PTE take you?
PTE scores are accepted in numerous countries, such as the USA, UK, Canada, the Down Unders (Australia and New Zealand), and many others.

PTE Academic vs. PTE General
There are two types of PTE: the Academic and the General version. To cut a long story short, the most significant difference between the two types is that PTE Academic is the only one that is accepted in the immigration process. PTE Academic is outlined for students who wish to study and relocate to English speaking countries. Australia and New Zealand, for example, specifically cite the PTE Academic test for the admission process in universities.
On the other hand, PTE General is designed for both educational and working purposes. However, it is mostly accepted by non-English speaking countries and it mainly evaluates the candidate’s vocabulary and communication skills.
Note: PTE general is not computer-based.
Hopefully, these five minutes were useful for you to get fired up and ready to go. See ya at PTE! 🙂
