What is a Functional Level of English?

When it comes to Australian immigration, having a functional level of English is an important requirement for many visa applications. In order to meet the functional English requirement, there are two main ways that applicants can demonstrate their English proficiency.

The first way is by showing that they have completed their education in an English-speaking environment. For example, if an applicant attended a primary school and secondary school where all instruction was in English, either in Australia or another country, they would meet the functional English requirement.

The second way to demonstrate functional English is by achieving a certain score on an approved English language test. For example, an applicant who achieves a total band score of at least 30 on the PTE Academic test, or an average band score of at least 4.5 on the IELTS test, would meet the functional English requirement. Other types of English language tests like TOEFL iBT and CAE.

Applying for a Second Work and Holiday Visa.

Applicants seeking a second or third Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa must meet a prescribed minimum period of ‘specified subclass 462 work’ before they can apply. Specified work refers to work that is completed in a specified industry and area of Australia.

The type of work that is considered ‘specified subclass 462 work’ varies depending on the industry and area in which it is completed. For example, agricultural work in certain parts of Australia may qualify as specified work, as may work in mining or construction. It’s essential for applicants to carefully review the list of specified work industries and areas to ensure they meet the minimum requirements.

You will also need to pay another AUD $510 fee to apply for the second visa.
